AC

Today is a little soupy out, so I decided it would be the day to try out our central air... since we purchased the home in December, we had no way of knowing if the AC worked or not. We had to have faith that the previous owner hadn't misled us....

When I approached Gllen, I casually threw it out there, "Hey do you want to try out the AC today?" He nodded, still looking at his computer. "Ok," I responded, "You go shut windows."

It was only then that he looked up from his monitors with eagerness and a grin from ear to ear. "Really?!" I smiled back.

I fired up the unit from the control panel in the hallway. After a few moments, cool air started pouring through the vents. Gllen and I visited each room and felt the vents and danced with excitement.

Best decision ever. I am so glad we found a house with central air. I am now looking forward to a summer of happy Gllen, instead of sweaty "don't touch me" snarly Gllen.

And I got lots of hugs today.

Room Names

So, we've been living at our house now for a little over two months now... but it only took a few weeks for Gllen to come up with nicknames for all the rooms. Ok, not all of them - there's the standard guest room, bedroom, office, kitchen, etc. We even have a room we are calling the Library, which sounds very sophisticated. But there are two rooms that have been given a Gllen nickname... The basement, and the second bedroom upstairs. The basement is a little bit of a no-brainer - he was already craving one for two years now... so that's called "The Lair".

The second bedroom took a while to put together. It had some awful rough wood panels and I painted every surface. Many people have commented on the hotel-like feeling of the room since the the toilet and shower are in a little room and the sink is in the bedroom. We decided to use it as a big closet and I put in a chair and tv to use while I get ready in the morning. When I was putting the finishing touches on the room, Gllen walked in and said, "Ooooh! Someone has a fancy Princess Mansion!". So yah, that's now what it's called.

And of course, there's "The Most Precious Real Estate In The House" - AKA, the kitchen counter.

New Year's Resolution: BLOG MORE!

Hey, guess what!? We moved! Yep, I finally bought a house, after a year of planning and waiting and vision boarding and agonizing and... you get the drift. So, my blog has suffered a small bit of neglect as we literally were swept away by the process and had only 2 weeks from the acceptance of our offer until closing. Since then we've been working like mad on freshening up the place, and of course, packing up our apartment and moving all the boxes and furniture into the new house - which, BTW, is right across the street from our friends, The Ricketts!

Gllen has already started some fun new habits now that we have a new place. I'm sure you remember me telling you about nicknames that he has given me over the years. Currently, I'm being called "Girf" (sounded out as JERF) or some variation on that theme, like "Girf and Turf" or "Girpy-Girp". Well, now that we are in a much bigger place, with three actual levels, Gllen can't always find me. So, he has taken to wandering about the house and chirping out "Girf!" until he finds me. It's very quiet, to the point where sometimes I don't know if it's him or a tiny bird begging for food.

So, of course, I've taken to chirping out "Birf!" in response until he radars in on me.

More to come soon, as we settle in - I finally have a computer again - (that's another story!) and I'll try to keep everyone up to date on our new adventures.

Also, keep your eye on http://coldwetfire.blogspot.com/ - Mike's blog - where he's hinted at writing some "Living Near Gllen" entries now that we're neighbors. Happy New Year everyone!

House, House, House part II

So, the gossip on the street is that we MIGHT have a shot at the house we're interested in. Universe, keep your fingers crossed!

So, I've been getting all crazy, Janelle-style, and swooning around the apartment, work, my car, etc. Practically stalking my Realtor.

Yesterday, I had the privilege of eavesdropping on Gllen as he talked to his mom over the phone. He was saying things like, "WE put an offer in on a house." and "WE really like it." and "It's the nicest house WE've looked at."

A feeling of joy swelled up within me. Gllen was actually excited!!! Today he even asked me, "When are we going to foreclose on this house? Let's get this!" I practically died. I was worried he wasn't as in to it as me.

Later, I asked him if he was excited. He told me, "I'm not going to allow myself to get excited about it yet." That means he is secretly excited - I just know it!

So, internetz... please please please send out your positive vibes. We need this house!

Guests Be Warned

Last night, Gllen and I were at dinner, discussing the house hunt, and I said to him, "You know, needing a space for your office is really gumming up the works. If we didn't have to deal with that, it would be much easier. Just sayin."

Gllen narrowed his eyes at me. "If we didn't need a guest room it would be a lot easier."

Flustered, I sputtered out, "I need a space of my own! I hate hanging out in the bedroom when I want to be by myself. How would you like having your office in the bedroom?"

He raised his brows at me, "Maybe we should have the guest bed in the bedroom."

I stared at him. "If you went to a friends house, who said, 'Yeah, you can sleep on our guest bed' and then you discovered it was in their BEDROOM, what would you do?"

We both disolved into giggles. Gllen stated, "So I think we're in agreement here. Guest bed in the bedroom."

Still laughing, I said, "Oh my god, can you imagine? What if you dad or mom came to visit? That would be sooooo wierd."

Gllen snorted, "It's a good icebreaker."

I stared at him again. "That's not an icebreaker, honey. That's throwing a glacier into the room."

Home-Ownership

Yesterday, I wistfully mentioned to Gllen how awesome it would be to own a house.

Gllen immediately said "No... we don't want to take care of a yard."

I was thinking of Mike and how he loves yard work, and, a little envious of Kate, I commented "It wouldn't hurt you to do a little yard work".

"Yeah it would!" he scoffed. "I'd have back pain, blisters, probably bleed a few times. Maybe get my arm chopped off in a lawn mower. And other stuff too. My shoes would get wet from shoveling snow."

Oh, the horror! We'll probably never own a house.

PS - Kate, you have no idea how lucky you are.
