Intentions

On Fridays, I only work until noon. Sometimes that means I catch up on my missed weekly zzzzs with an afternoon nap. Last Friday was such an occasion.

I had stretched out on the couch permitting myself an hour or so to rest my weary body before getting up and running errands, cleaning the house and other such nonsense. About two minutes into REM, I feel Gllen's presence hovering over me. My back was to him, and I didn't even bother to open my eyes. Grouchily, I asked, "What?" I don't even remember what he said, just that he pretended he was about to pick me up and tried to get me to wake up. I yelled at him to go away.

A few minutes later, I hear Gllen shuffling from the living room to his office to the bedroom and back. After what seemed like eighty trips to and fro, I finally snapped, "WHY are you PACING??????!!!!!!"

A meek reply issued from somewhere near the door. "I can't find my keys."

I barked out that they were on the dresser in the bedroom, and he finally retrieved them and left the house. Nap peace at last!

Well, today, I asked Gllen what that was all about. "Remember when you tried to lift me up when I was napping? What was that all about?"

Sweet as can be, he tells me, "I wanted you to go on an adventure with me." His response was the right mixture of pathetic and sincere and I started to feel bad for being a nap-bitch. (But really, who EVER responds well to being disturbed from afternoon nap bliss?)

"Oh." I patted him on the shoulder. "Where did you want to go?"

He didn't miss a beat and replied, "The bank."

I stared at him incredulously. He started to laugh which made me laugh. "You thought waking me up to go to the bank was a good idea?" He laughed more. Sometimes I wonder at his thought process.

  2. Ya, right. He doesn't think that far ahead. Usually he walks out the door and down the steps before he remembers he needs keys.
