Memories of the Affair at Soho Cafe

So, my friend Becky and I went to the Soho Cafe tonight to pick up some vittles, and I had a sudden flashback to last year...

Gllen had asked me to stop there so he could pick up something for dinner. I obliged, but was too lazy to join him inside, so I sat in the car while he ordered. As he waited for his food, a trio of friends entered the shop. Two guys and a petite girl. This little wisp of a girl walks straight up to Gllen and starts talking to him excitedly. She's jumping up and down and throwing her head back with laughter. My eyes are getting narrower by the second as I stare her down from my omnipotent viewpoint. Gllen laughs - I don't have to hear it to know exactly which laugh it was... It's the one where he lets out a puff of air through his nose, akin to a snorting horse (but in reverse) followed by a slight rocking on his heels backwards. Who is this little snip talking to my Gllen? Suddenly, she throws her arms around him and embraces him mightily. My lips draw back in a sneer. Gllen, for his part, stands like a statue during the assault. She lets go and goes laughingly to her friends, and Gllen turns his attention back to the counter and picks up his food. He saunters back to the car, gets in and doesn't mention the little scene. I ask "What was that all about? Who was that chick throwing herself at you?" He laughs and says "I think those guys were on shrooms. I couldn't even understand what she was saying."

I don't get it, but a lot of people like "poking the bear". What is it about him that elicits this behavior? I mean, the usual response is the blank stare - how rewarding!
